Deter, Detect, Respond, Report

At Wisdom, we understand that effective protection is not necessarily flashy. Instead it involves the consistent application of basic security principles — deter, detect, respond, report.  We asked our Operations Managers to share some real-life Wisdom examples of how adhering to fundamentals protected our clients.  Here are some of their favorite stories.

An “Easy A” Foiled

In search of an “Easy A”, a student at a university under Wisdom protection sought to sneak back into the classroom to plant a “cheat sheet” to help with an upcoming exam. Using a tried but true method, the student placed tape over the locking mechanism so the door would close but not fully lock. During a routine patrol, a Wisdom security officer discovered the door was easily opened and elevated the matter to the university. On further investigation, the student’s cheat sheets were found.

Poking Holes in the Plan

On a routine patrol, a Wisdom security officer at a correctional facility noticed some of the steel wires on a perimeter chain link fence had been cut but not displaced. When the officer reported the matter, the client reviewed the security videos and discovered that the cuts had been made deliberately by a member of the correctional facility staff with nefarious intentions.

You’ve Got Mail

When Superstorm Sandy hit, many homes were damaged and rendered uninhabitable. A Wisdom Protective security officer patrolling a hard hit neighborhood noticed that one home was not only getting regular mail but the mail was also being picked up. Investigating further, Wisdom discovered a squatter who had brazenly taken up residence, listed the property address as his own and forwarded his mail.

No power to you!

A Wisdom security officer patrolling a power plant noticed a frequent visitor to the plant’s parking lot. Wondering why he was there, the Wisdom security officer approached and asked “May I help you?” When the answer raised red flags she reported the conversation which triggered a surveillance video review. Law enforcement was called and the man was arrested. As it turns out, he was a terrorist on the FBI Watch List.
